"All dichotomies exist on a spectrum; this means that opposites often exist simultaneously and the artist must achieve a balance to serve their purpose. In my artwork, I focus on the spectrums of color, spatial depth, volume and flatness, and representation and abstraction. In connection to these aesthetic components of art, I am interested in the viewers’ physical reaction to the art, in how various combinations of mark, form, and color can either draw the viewer closer or cause them to step back.
Currently, I am exploring the role of narrative in how we make sense of the world. From my observations, nearly all communication is structured in a story-like framework. I believe all art is a sort of visual narrative that interacts with its surroundings."
